Job opportunity: Cancer Development Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a successful improvement team, which will implement an innovative health assessment tool for people with learning disabilities. Three project managers are required to roll the tool out to care settings across the Northwest of England.

  • One post will cover Merseyside & Cheshire based at Riverside Park, Bromborough, Wirral 
  • One post will cover Lancs & Cumbria based at Preston Business Centre, Watling Street Road, Fulwood , Preston 
  • One post will cover Greater Manchester based at 40 Princess Street, Manchester

On 26 February, Rare Disease Day is being held again. Rare Disease Day is an annual, awareness-raising event co-ordinated by EURORDIS at the international level and National Alliances of Patient Organisations at the national level.

Nearly half a million Europeans live with a rare cancer. Despite the rarity of each individual cancer type, around 200 clinically different rare cancers represent in total about 20% of all cancer cases, including all cancers in children.

Network welcomes Network Support Group Development Manager

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation has funded a new post which is the first of it’s kind in the country. Donna Sheridan has been recruited to increase the number of cancer patient support groups across the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network. She has already been busy contacting Clinical Nurse Specialists within the Network to identify where there is a need for support groups. She will encourage the development of the groups to become self sustaining over time.  Donna feels very passionate about the role and added it is an essential part of the patient pathway.

 National Cancer Director recognised in New Years Honours

The 2010 New Year Honours List has been published, recognising outstanding achievement and service across the whole of the United Kingdom. Included in the honours is Professor Mike Richards, National Cancer Director.

Professor Richards received a knighthood for his contribution to health and is responsible for developing the National Cancer Plan and the Cancer Reform Strategy.

The aim of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week is to increase awareness of cervical cancer and how to prevent it.

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease through cervical screening and the HPV vaccination programme.  Despite this last year 20% of women did not take up their invitation for cervical screening.  In addition, only 50% of older girls offered the HPV vaccine have elected to have this potentially life saving jab.

NCRI seeks new patients and members of the public

The National Cancer Research Institute are looking to recruit patients and members of the public to join NCRI Clinical Studies Groups where new ideas for cancer research are developed.

 
The aim is to help NCRI understand the views and interests of patients and the public on a range of cancer research issues.
