The concept for the conference was developed by Christina Shennan, a psychotherapist based at Croston House, Garstang. The event was funded by Cancerhelp, Preston together with 20 bursary places funded by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and match funded by the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network.
There were a blend of presentations during the day mixing theoretical studies evidencing the impact of a Mindfulness Approach and some demonstrations of mindfulness practices, which were simple enough for delegates to be able to follow and perhaps replicate at home.
The event evaluated extremely well and discussions are underway to develop a one day study day to help health and social care staff understand more about Mindfulness. This will be an experiential day of mindfulness practice , as well as an introduction to mindfulness theory, so staff can better understand the principles of Mindfulness and how mindfuness practices can support patients and their families, as well as help staff in their often demanding roles. Please visit the Network website during November for more information about this.
Presentations are are available by clicking on the links below. Should you require information on either the two day courses which are available through Trish Bartley at Bangor University or when Christina Shennan is running the next course(s) at Croston House, please feel free to make contact with them.
